on the T4x series) will outperform a Pentium-4 running at an extra Ghz
due to chip design (so a 2.0Ghz Pentium M is comparable to a 3.0 Ghz P4,
and your T41 at say 1.6 Ghz is faster than a 2.4 P4). However, the
Pentium M does not consume nearly as much energy or output nearly as
much heat as the P4. Therefore, using a 3.0Ghz P4 on a battery is simply
not feasible, since the battery life will be too low and the laptop will
run very hot, while a P-M at 2.0 Ghz will consume about 1/4th of energy
and run much cooler and easier.
If you do not want to get a higher clock T4x because of cost reasons (as
I don't really see another reason, the T4x series is the absolute top
laptop series at the moment) check the R52. It uses Pentium-M chips, so
it will be speedy. *much* cooler and *far* more portable than the G41.
Plus, you can get them at up to SXGA+ 15" screens (some earlier models
even came with UXGA), so they are more than capable as desktop replacements.
To be honest, I really don't see the reasoning behind IBM's G series,
since their "low-cost" R series is far better at most if not all
aspects, and I would recommend that you avoid *any* laptop that uses a
desktop processor.
Hope this helps
