- Thinkpad T40 or Acer Travelmate 803CLi?
- Posted by Sophie on July 13th, 2003
Hi. I need to buy a new laptop (my IBM Thinkpad 570 has bitten the
dust). At first I was wary of buying another IBM, but after looking
around the reviews seem to be pretty good for the T40. So now I am
choosing between the T40 and the Acer. Both have won Editor's Choice
awards (CNET and the like). I'm definitely keen on the Pentium M. I
don't do any gaming or significant multi-media.
So...for those of you who know a lot about this stuff...what do you
think? THinkpad or Acer?
Thanks in advance.

Although I own Acer Travelmate 800 LCi and like it very much, I'll give
you a practical advise.
So far the only laptops that I used that were 'complete' (solid, all the
features, no problems) were Sony (gasp!) - bar technical support (which I
luckily did not need for all three Sony laptops I owned). What I'm
saying is that Acer TM80x have their share of problems (huge for some,
not significant for others), and so do IBM T40 (that is judging from this
group). You are more likely to resolve those with IBM than with Acer.
If you liked your experience with Thinkpads, if you have an acceptable
deal on T40, go with it. You might be able to use some peripherals from
your old laptop, you'll feel 'at home' with keyboard and mouse, etc.
You'll go to the same sites for updates on drivers, etc. etc.
