I've had my Toshiba 6100 for about 1.5 weeks now, and it's locked up 3
times, cold. I have to unplug and remove the battery to restart it
because there's not a reset...that I know of.

I've seen a couple other references to this too. I'm a software
developer in Dallas and don't need my machine hanging on me.

Overall, I'm really impressed with it. I'm elated that the Winders
keys are in the top right and not near my Ctrl/Alt keys for me to trip
over all the time. I've also liked the eraser head pointing devices
in the past and this one works as well as the ThinkPad I had in the
past. I use a USB/wireless optical mouse though...still can't beat
the wheel.

The screen resolution and built-in dvd writer were top selling points,
in addition to the pro OS (XP pro) and larger drive/RAM.

Bummers:
- Can handle up to 1024MB RAM, but comes with both RAM slots full of
256MB sticks
- Does run hot. Place on bed in winter, don't need a bed warmer
- USB 1.1 (pricegrabberDOTcom said it was 2.0...Toshiba's specs didn't
say). Huge bummer here.
- THIS LOCK UP PROBLEM (please help?!?)
- Bundled CD/DVD burning software stinks. Had to buy Roxio EZ CD...
- Arm rest kind of creeks over DVD drive. Case a little flimsy.
- Of course, tinkering too much with XP required me to reinstall, and
Toshiba doesn't give actual XP CD, just a preload reloader that boots
to Win95/DOS and reformats. Data loss. Ugly.
- Haven't had much sleep since I got it

Plusesez:
- Keyboard is awsome!
- Native 1600x1200 screen res rocks!
- Built in video RAM leaves my sys RAM alone
- Layout of PgUp/Dn, Enter, etc makes sense to me
- Built in wireless provides better reception than two PCMCIA cards I
tried in the same machine (LinkSys and SMS..granted, cheaper wireless
cards)
- Sound system is decent. Not great, but beats the heck out of my old
Fujitsu.
- Light for it's capabilities
- Built in SD is a great idea. CF would have been preferrable for me.

Thanks. I did find an update, just posted. Oddly, the driver release
date was earlier than my DVD-RW production date. It took them 9
months to post the updated driver. Driver is also not the same
version as yours. Must be different versions from model to model.
Old (current) version is 2.1.1.10, same as just released a few days
ago on their site. But, the build date is different. Drivers might
be updated though. I'll install and see how it goes. If you never
hear from me again, assume I never could get back online

I tend to agree. I went from toshiba to IBM and I think toshiba keyboard and
trackpoint is better.

Don't feel bad my IBM is getting BSOD's when I add memory. 2 crucial cards
and now testing an IBM card.

As far as hang goes, get toshiba to swap it. Easy if you bought it direct or
from reputable dealer.

Gotta watch the memory config on any laptop you buy.

99% of all laptops that are not centrino have USB 1.0

You have to watch out for USB 2 (meaning 2 USB ports).

P.S. get onsite service for 3 years it's cheap.

Just use XP's system restore to make a "save point" before you install
the drivers. If they don't work, you'll be able to easily go back to
your old ones.

By the way, it took me quite a bit of tinkering before I could finally
manage to install the drivers. I suggest removing any old ones before
installing these, it might make the job easier. If you have an Atheros
AR5001X card, there's no reason you should have to use old drivers
instead of these.

Three days now running wireless continuously (even while using a
network cable at the same time) and no crashes... my laptop now seems

Why don't they have these for the T6100? It's clearly a later
release. Is the T6100 a dead model?

What other drivers are compatible with this machine?

I haven't had frequent lockups. Just 2 or 3 in the last 2 weeks. So,
it'll be hard to test.

I will say this about the WiFi: I've inserted 2 other cards (an SMS,
and a LinkSys) and neither of them pick up at the distance the
built-in card does. It must be a pretty good card.

If I lock up more, I'll give these a try. I'm a little chicken since
it's for a different model.
