- Toshiba Satelite 1625CDT o/s replacement ideas needed
- Posted by Big T on September 23rd, 2004
Does anyone have any sound ideas on what I can replace my o/s with? The
harddrive needs reformatting badly & the original Win98 SE disk can not be
found. I do have access to Win 95,98,ME,2k pro & XP pro. But all of them
are for desktops.I checked out the min. requirements needed for Win 2k and
my Satelite 1625CDT meets them, but I'm not finding anything on the Toshiba
web site that says it will work.Solid suggestions needed on what will and
what won't work, thanks in advance.

The only choices I would consider are 98SE and XP (not sure if XP will
run). There is no difference between a "laptop OS" and a "desktop OS",
but for any computer (laptop or desktop), you need the appropriate
drivers, and there are a few more of them, in most cases, for a laptop.
There's no way to know if XP will work without trying it. You need to
find all of the drivers (many maybe built-in), you need a minimum of
about 192k of memory, and you need a minimum of about a 300 MHz Pentium
II CPU.
