- Toshiba Tecra A2 audio device wont start or sound distorted
- Posted by robinve@gmail.com on September 28th, 2006
Hi
I have a
Toshiba Tecra A2 1.6Ghz PTA20C-0NJ01J
running XP Professioanl and its audio device is a
Sigmatel STAC9750TG seen as a SigmaTel C-Major Audio in device manager
and I am currently using the most current drivers I can find from the
Toshiba site
version 6.14.1.3835
The sound on this laptop often gets the error - could not start this
device (Code 10). Or if it does start the sound can come out a bit
distorted.
I have reformated and fully updated my windows XP and tried different
versions of the drivers but I cant seem to get the sound to work.
I am wondering if the sound card is faulty or if there is a later
driver or patch I am not aware of. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Does Windows XP during the install automatic detect this sound card? If
so, use that driver. You said you tried different drivers and just a
note to others reading this. Not all the latest drivers wok. Many times
I had to use an older driver to get things to work.

Thanks for the reply. No Windows XP did not recognise the the sound
card. I have also used older version of the driver without success

Hi
I have been working on this problem for a bit and I decided to try an
older version of the drivers and not to patch XP. However on going to
Toshiba site I have found that they have changed the sound card
drivers. While it still says SigmaTel in the specs the new driver is a
Realtek AC'97. I am a bit confused by this but happy because I now
appear to have a working sound card.
