Wal-Mart "Balance" (ECS A535) review (Linux-centric) posted

Hi all,

If anyone cares, I just bought one of the Wal-Mart Balance cheapo
laptops ($598 or $698) and have written a Linux-centric but also
generally interesting review of the product, you can see it at

Thanks for writing and posting.

The link to the config file doesn't work - the file is
not in /download.

Thanks for the review. Just how loud is the fan? I have a need simular
to yours regarding a laptop and that el cheapo might just fill my need
if the fan doesn't sound like a F-16 launching from a carrier deck.
Louder than a desktop fan?
Thanks

Well, first - visit that review again for an important warning.

Re the fan, it's probably about the same dB as a desktop fan but since
it's a couple of feet from your face

The shipped BIOS, and the latest from the US web site, are very loud.
The latest from the Taiwanese web site doesn't run the fans quite so
aggressively, it's a lot quieter. With the US version, the main fan is
on full blast 100% of the time, and the aux fan kicks in occasionally.
With the TW version, the main fan is on at about 50% maximum, and it's
much quieter.
