- Where does a CD/DVD drive in an external USB2.0 enclosure go?
- Posted by Sujai on October 1st, 2003
I've been thinking of getting an external USB 2.0 enclosure for my
laptop. This seems very good: http://dealsonic.com/bytidetousb2.html,
but from the pictures, I cannot tell how a CD-RW or DVD drive will be
usable (the front doesnt seem to open so how would the tray open/shut?)
If anyone has used one of these enclosures with a CD/DVD drive, please
let me know how it works.
Thanks,
Sujai

because these enclosures can be used for hard disks as well as CD's they
have a blanking panel at the front to hide the hard disk behind, just like a
PC. If you fit a CD you simply discard the blanking plate

Glad to be of help though I will sign off with the caveat that I don't have
the drive you used as an example - and they might be the one oddball
exception <G>. I do however have a Pyro 1394 external enclosure that
connects via Firewire rather than USB and the front panel on this is
removable for use with an optical drive.

Good luck
