- wifi card compatible with the HP NC 4010
- Posted by frad on July 12th, 2005
Hi,
I purchased a HP NC 4010 notebook but it did not come with a WIFI card
(even though it has a slot for a mini pci card). I've heard there
is a BIOS restriction which prevents the use of cards not provided by
HP.
Can anyone tell me if I can use an Intel Pro 2200 G (not purchased at
HP)
or another kind of cards (something cheap < $30) ?
If so, do I need to upgrade the BIOS?
Thanks in advance,
Francois

Hi Mark,
I've just received the Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG mini-pci card.
But when I boot my computer I get the following message:
104 Usupported wireless network device detected
System Halted. Power off system, remove device and restart.
Guess there is a bios protection.
Do you have any idea on how I can manage to make it works.
Thanks.
Francois

Finally I managed to make it work thanks to a thread about this
problem at:
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/f...46406+28353475
It basically tells how to change some information in the EEPROM of the
card so that the BIOS recognized it as an authorized card.
