But what's this about a NEW PM8? I thought PM8 was long gone,taken
over by Symantec and rebadged. Am I wrong?

Taken over by Symantec, yes. But, there's nothing new about it, as my

@malasada.lava.net:

It also works (somewhat to my surprise) very well with USB hard drives. I'm
not sure what a Maxtor one touch is, but if it's USB or firewire, it's got
a good chance of working.

understanding it is mainly the same old thing under Symantec name. It is
especially notable for IBM Thinkpad owners that it is still unable to
handle correctly the proprietary (of course) way IBM handles partitions.
So PQmagic is basically useless for them, since all disks except the
main drive is going to be seen as defective. It aggravates me since
PQMagic is otherwise the most convenient program for me to handle
partitions, and believe me, I tried Acronis products too.

I had trouble trying to partition a TP with PM 8.1 myself. Couldn't
figure out why so I switched to Vcom's System Commander 7.5 and it
worked perfectly.

I've been building multiple boot systems for 10 years using PM and SC. I
like PM better for partitioning and SC for a boot manager.

Maxtor. can use either a firewire port or standard usb2 port on the
hub. So far all reports are that it will work fine with win/xp
and the NTFS external drive. Will install it today and see.
