[Windows XP Home] Processor temperature
Posted by Hans Kamp on August 10th, 2003

I have a laptop: Paradigit Voyager (Celeron 2.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM) and
on it, I have Windows XP pre-installed.

My question: Is there a way that I can see what the processor
temperature is? Someone said that he had Linux installed on his laptop
and he could see the temperature? I assume that this is also possible
with Windows XP.

Look in your bios section and you will find it.

Do all laptops have this? I use a freeware program called Aida32 to see the
temp on my desktop, but it can't pick up anything on my laptop. And I don't
see the temp anywhere in either computer's BIOS.

Temperature monitoring (via HMonitor)

PassMark software has formed a partnership with the publisher of
Hmonitor, Alexander Berezkin. Hmonitor is a software utility that can
monitor the vital statistics of your motherboard. By using Hmonitor
and BurnInTest together it is possible to Burn in your hardware while
monitoring and logging the temperature of your CPU(s) within
BurnInTest.
This is how you set it up

- Check that your mainboard supports temperature monitoring. This can
be done from the documentation that comes with the board / computer or
from the manufacturers web page.
- Hmonitor must be correctly installed on your computer. Hmonitor is
currently available at http://www.hmonitor.com. PassMark also
maintains a Web page that can tell you where to get Hmonitor.
http://www.passmark.com/products/temperature.htm

- Check that Hmonitor supports your motherboard. Hmonitor comes with a
list of supported boards.
- Check that Hmonitor is a compatible version. Testing was done with
versions 3.1.2.5 and 4.0.1.2 but any version later than this should
work OK.
- Run Hmonitor, then Run BurnInTest.
- Make sure temperature monitoring is turned on in BurnInTest. (from
the Test preferences Window) and the temperature source value is
selected. Up to two sources can be selected for display and logging in
BurnInTest.

- Start testing.
