- Yet another -battery recall - Apple (also Sony cells). Who's next?

With Sony being a large scale cell/pack supplier, I'm wondering which other
laptop makers will be next.

The next is likely to be Sony itself. There are reports of flaming Vaio

I doubt that very much. Sony produce a lot of component level items for
other manufacturers, so it is highly likely that you have numerous Sony
products in your home.
I understand, your misgivings though. I used to be a Sony fan, but I would
not buy anything with Sony on it now.

I just hope the returned packs and stuff that was still in stock when
the recall hit are destroyed safely. I have visions of millions of
explosive battery packs showing up on eBay....

Who's next?
Very simple, any other company that bought batteries from Sony.

The way Dell handled a previous recall would sort of ensure that doesn't happen.
They ship the new part with an invoice and return-paid shipping for the old one.
After ten days (probably depends on your location and the return address) with
no return, you pay for the new one. So unless people want to use the recall
scheme to buy a replacement at full list price and still be stuck with a faulty
one, they'll be sending the recalled ones back.
