- administration PAM and FTP
- Posted by PenguinsAnonymous on September 24th, 2003
I finally achieved more understanding of my ftp
problem perhaps enough to fix it.
On a gentoo system after upgrading many things
including pam I could no longer ftp to the system.
Everything else worked ssh, login etc.
Then I noticed I could ftp in to a newly created
user! So what is it about pam and the user that
existed through the update process? I bet there
is some kind of migration or something that I am
overlooking?
TIA

Doh! I found the problem ... somehow the shell got
cropped from the user entry in passwd.
Not sure why but that kept the auth from happening.
