any 1-CD distro?

Yes.

Apart from the normal "bigger is better" customer bias, predicting
what you, Henrique, will or will not enjoy in a basic distribution
amounts to crystal-gazing. There really is so much stuff that
customers might view as essential that it does not fit on one CD.

But of course, the first CD of any distribution will usually suffice
to get the system up and running if that's why you're asking.

..... knoppix

on another note ... if you DONT choose a bunch of software, i
find that you'll never get past the first CD for most distros

so, it's only by YOUR acceptance of the software being
installed that you're getting beyond CD#1.

Folks, I am looking for a 1 CD distro...I don't need 20 different version of
an ftp client or e-mail daemon..so I don't understand why big distro makers
release 8 CD distros...

The only things I would enjoy on it would be a graphical interface and an
update mechanism (such as rhn, etc.).

Is that difficult ?

Morphix, knoppix (gnoppix) can be installed on HD if you want.

If you are running a slightly older PC - then install PeanutLinux. It
has at least office tool, media player, web browser and chat.

I wonder if VectorLinux is also an easy 1-CD distribution.

If thats the case get a copy ov Gnoppix - you can put it in your MS box
CD and reboot (note: keep in mind the apps are loading from the CD ..
very slowly which won't happen from hard disk) and get the feel. It runs
off the CD and doesn't touch you HD (though you can smbmount it). Then
remove the CD, reboot and be right back to MS.

If you already know you want Linux - then as someone said "It's a
religious issue." Ignore all the flames and try several.

Then buy some clock works (the small battery type), some wood and make a
dozen or so CD clocks. You should be able to sell'em and recoupe some of
your expense. ;-)

was received from the entity known as Henrique Seganfredo:

With Debian and most other distros, you can install a basic system which
will do most of what you are likely to need off the first CD, then install
more stuff directly over the net if you need it.
