Is there CD Burning for software for linux:
- that does not depend on gnome

- has a gui front end
- does not require you to know anything technical about burning cds
......just point and click
Thanks

My first thought was X-CD-Roast, but you still have to know a little bit
about CDs. I haven't used any other GUI CD program so I can't help beyond
that. For what it's worth, I was doing a favor and backing up someone's
else's Windows 98 machine last night with Nero (she didn't know how it
worked) and I was surprised how similar it was to X-CD-Roast in some ways.
That said, Nero didn't hit you with the options before you started, which
would make it easier for some people. However, for some reason, on this
machine, some .jpegs would freeze the machine up when I was trying to add
them to the CD. I don't have a clue why. It hit me as I was driving home
that what I'll have to do is copy the data files to another directory and
then use Nero to back up the whole schmear to get around this. Her new
anti-virus scanner caught 10 new viruses Thursday so I need to get the
machine backed up as soon as possible before it comes unraveled.
Sorry for meandering. There are some other Linux GUI programs for burning
CDs but I was not satisfied with him. However, my distribution is nearly
two years old so doubtlessly they've improved a lot since then.

you could maybe wrap them up in the GUI of your choice.
The easiest point-n-click one I've seen is k3b (even supports DVDs) but
that expects quite a bit of GUI support for use with Gnome/KDE.

You can use X-CD Roast, available at:

If you want something that doesn't need a GUI or even an X-server at
all, but is simpler to use than cdrecord from the command line, try
this:
http://bashburn.sourceforge.net
