I thought I'd pass this along so the next person doesn't make the same
mistake I did.
SuSE 9.0 shipped with one kernel on the CDs (2.4.21-99-default)and a
different kernel on the DVD (2.4.21-144-default).
If that didn't confuse people who didn't realize it enough, there
seems to be a small problem with the -144 kernel. Somewhere inside
(and I have NO clue where) it still thinks it's -99, and refers to the
-99 modules path
If, as I did, you install most of the system from DVD, but a few misc.
modules and utilities from CD, you probably have a nice, stable,
consistant, system. NOT.
