import_mp3.so not found in transcode nor in lame
Posted by Beto on December 10th, 2003

Hi,
I was trying an script I found about how to convert divx-to-vcd.

It used transcode, but when I run it, it says that transcode couldn't
find import_mp3.so library. I checked in the transcode dir where all the
import modules are and indeed that file isn't there. I checked on the
internet and in the transcode page says that you need lame (a software)
to work with mp3. I installed lame and the problem persists. I can't
find anyway to make it work.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Regards

Dunno about the *.so glitch (it sounds like RPM dependency bugs; that's
uncertain to me given the evidence). However, a Google Linux search on

divx to vcd conversion

returned a possible workaround for now ("DivX -> VCD conversion"):

HTH; YMMV.

You're not saying much. Did you install lame from source? As an RPM?
If so, did you get the lame RPM or the lame-devel RPM? Did you
re-compile transcode afterwards? Did the `configure' say it had found
lame or not? Or did you get transcode as a binary package? Are you sure
you are not using a cowardly distribution that excludes mp3 software
on purpose?

There are so many things that might be your problem, you really have
to give more info.

Thanks for the answer, but this method is also using transcode for the
audio conversion which will lead me to the same problem.

Ummm I generally create my own RPMs with rpmbuild but right now I can't
remember, because sometimes I can't create the RPM packages. I'll check
on the weekend and will be back with more info to get this working.
