Need SNMP package
Posted by Cal Lidderdale on August 14th, 2003

I'm looking for a package (mon, gxsnmp ...) for a SNMP configuration we
are working on. And rather that re-invent the wheel .......

Words of wisdom please. GUI's, packages, what to use, what to
stay away from. The initial setup I'm trying for is 1 Linux box
watching over a whole bunch of other UNIX boxes (Dec, IBM, Sun etc)
( count = ###, 3 digits )

Tks
Cal

SNMP only? If not, then maybe BigBrother would be good for you.
Monitoring madness complete with SNMP support and support for a whole
bunch of things you didn't realise you'd need before ;-)

If pure SNMP, use the software from here:

Have a look here (for MIBs and such):

Use `net-snmp' (was `unc-snmp') for the agents and backand tools/libs.

Un-manageable `black' boxes (such as hubs and "consumer" type switches).

That would be called a NMS (Network Management Station) -
there are some OSS packages that should do just wat you want.
I have used (and very much like) OpenNMS -

AFAIK - all frontends use `MRTG' or `rrdtool' in some way or another -
google for that (and NMS) for loads of stuff.

JFFNMS looks nice also - i have never used it -
if you're going to though it'd be interesting to know if it scales:
