Preparing for Palm -> Symbian migration.

Hi there, I'm planning for disaster recovery in case my Handspring Visor
dies.
I have no plans to replace it with another Palm device (Treo 270 is
reportedly
just as buggy as the VisorPhone and is still very expensive starting north
of $300).

So, I'm thinking of getting a symbian based cell like a Nokia 3650 or
something
else that works (works!) on sub 1ghz cellular networks and can be had cheap
with a cell plan.
I'm in the US and am _very_ sick of Sprint and their terrible cellular
network.

My question is this:
would I be able to use the data that was saved by palm-xfer or I will be
shafted?
My understanding is that Symbian devices are handled in Linux by a
completely different
utility, rendering the data produced by palm-xfer useless.

If I switch to Windows my understanding is that all this will be seamlessly
handled by outlook or whatever the handhelds are interfacing with in
Windoze.

Thanks!
