Problem after RH-9 Upgrade
Posted by Mike Vore on July 16th, 2003

I recently upgraded from RH-7.x to 9.x and have encountered a couple
problems (quirks?).

When booting the system has been hanging when kudze starts - with the
message "checking for new hardware" - it never completes, I've let it
sit for 8 hours (over night) with no luck. This at first would take
just a couple seconds, then later it could be nudged to life with a
C-A-D but now that only reboots. I have to go into interactive boot
mode and not run kudzu.

The other thing is that I can't talk to either of my serial ports -
well, I can't talk to anything on the other end of the cable. The
ports work with my D-Camera and Palm Pilot when I boot into Wonderz-2k
so I feel that the hardware is working.

With RH-7 I found (stumbled across) a command that would probe all
disk type devices (USB included) and tell me the type and size. With
RH-9 I haven't found it yet. RH-9 seems to only know about my "ZIO!"
USB card reader, but I'm not even sure of that.
