- problems with xine/mplayer
- Posted by Andreas Berg on January 3rd, 2004
Hi,
i recently updated my system from Suse 8.1 to 9.0 and since then
mplayer does not work correctly anymore. I downloaded/compiled the newest
package, as well as codecs. Anyway all *.mpgs sounds very bad, like you
hear them 'under water'. (video quality is good, as well as all *.avis ).
I tried with xine and downloaded/compiled all packages, but it's still not better.
If i play videos, the sound crackles ( sometimes very loud, depends on the coding ).
I use onboard soundcard (intel) with intel8x0 driver. I tried already another soundcard
(soundblaster) but still the same. Anyway, if i boot the 'old' 8.1 everything works fine
using the onboard card.
Any idea? Are there any libraries used by mplayer/xine, which may be outdated?
Please give me a hint, i don't know what to do..
Best Regards,
Andreas

Assuming you are in KDE:
Run kcontrol. Now have a look under Sound and Multimedia / Sound System.
Click the Sound I/O tab and look for the Sound I/O Method drop down box.
Change this to read Threaded Open Sound System.
Hope that does it.
