Can anyone recommend easy to use, lightweight reminder or alarm software (not
cron, anacron or KAlarm please)?

I have used ical in the past, and it worked fairly well for my simple
needs, but you might get more helpful response if you stated you needs
more clearly.

Why, for instance, does KAlarm not fit your needs?

This looks like a homework question. Have you heard of at? It is like cron
except that it runs once only.

eg.

# at -f /root/destroy_world teatime tomorrow

Destroying the world at tea time normally requires root privileges.

Get 'remind' and 'tkremind' by David F. Skoll. Tkremind is just a flashy
GUI wrapper around 'remind'.

The program is supported by Roaring Penguin Software Inc.

Thanks for that. Just loaded it. Nice, easy, lightweight, powerful software.
Leaves KAlarm in the dust.
