Why you say slack 9.x is faster than Redhat?
Gnome loading faster, windows manager more responsive? Your compiling
time is shorter? Or httpd running faster? Or just general feeling?
Cause GNU/linux is just kernel + glibc + applications. And some
distros with rpm or dpkg.
Right now I'm kernel 2.4.20 + glibc 2.3.2 + icewm 1.2.9. It should
perform same regardless redhat/debian/slack.
