scsi scanner problem
Posted by Robert Schweikert on December 2nd, 2003

Hi all,

I am running SuSE 8.2 and am having problems getting SANE to work. When I
try to find the scanner with

# sane-find-scanner

I get the message

# No SCSI scanners found.....

But there should be one. From the last boot log I can extract the
following.

<6>scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.8
<4> <Adaptec 2940 SCSI adapter>
<4> aic7870: Single Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 16/253 SCBs
<4>
<6>scsi1 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.8
<4> <Adaptec aic7892 Ultra160 SCSI adapter>
<4> aic7892: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs
<4>

scsi1 is the controller for my hard drive and scsi0 is the controller to
which the scanner is connected.

Interseting is that all the hard drives hanging on scsi1 get identified in
the boot log like so

<4>blk: queue f7e53a18, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
<4> Vendor: SEAGATE Model: ST336706LW Rev: 010A
<4> Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
<4>blk: queue f7e0aa18, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
<4>(scsi1:A:0): 160.000MB/s transfers (80.000MHz DT, offset 63, 16bit)
<4> Vendor: COMPAQPC Model: ST318406LW Rev: 3C02
<4> Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
<4>blk: queue f7e0a418, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
<4>(scsi1:A:1): 160.000MB/s transfers (80.000MHz DT, offset 63, 16bit)
<4> Vendor: QUANTUM Model: ATLAS V 18 WLS Rev: 0201
<4> Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
<4>blk: queue f7e02a18, I/O limit 4095Mb (mask 0xffffffff)
<4>(scsi1:A:4): 160.000MB/s transfers (80.000MHz DT, offset 63, 16bit)

while the scanner does not show up.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on here? Should I see the
scanner in the boot log?

Thanks,
Robert
