SILO Fun in a Sparc IPX
Posted by Mauricio on November 28th, 2003

I recently finished installing debian in my Sparc IPX. But, when it is
the time in the installation process to make the disk bootable, this is
the message I am getting:

"SILO wasn't able to install. You'll still be able to boot your system
if you create a boot floppy, but it won't be able to boot without a
floppy."

What could be causing that and what can I do? I mean, why wouldn't it
be able to install SILO since it supposedly installed everything else?

Just a shot in the dark: The Sparc firmware is not able to boot (at least on
my SS 20) if you do not have the Sun disklabels (and partitioning scheme) on
disk. Maybe this prevents SILO from installing.
