Standard -> optical mouse
Posted by Yvan on October 5th, 2003

I want to change my standard mouse (Genius NetScroll+) with an optical
mouse (all I need is wheel and three buttons, the same as I have on my
present NetScroll+), both PS/2. Do I just unplug old one, and plug in
new, or do I have to make some configuration changes?

You may have to change the config in /etc/X11/XF86-Config-4, though if
they're both Netscroll PS mice, you might be lucky.

That depends on what the new mouse is, and if you use the same port or not.

No, you don't need to re-configure anything. If both mice are PS/2
they are the same as far as the computer can tell. Just swap the mice.

Tell us what version of what distribution you have, on what computer.

I just did... And it works with no need for any configuration changes.
New mouse is Genius NetScroll+ Eye.

OK. You are right. It's Red Hat 9, on Asus A7N8X (Athlon XP 2000). And
it works, I just plugged in new Genius NetScroll+ Eye (I bought that one
because all others seemed to have some sort of light show integrated in
them)
