SuSE CDs
Posted by Dave Brown on September 21st, 2003

Does anyone know of a procedure to create install CDs from a SuSE
install server? I have a SuSE install server set up to permit network
installs, but I have to go to a location which will not have a network
setup, and do a couple of installs. It would be so nice to have a set of
CDs. But I don't feel like I can justify $40 for a one-shot need, when I
already have the install tree and a CD burner.

I think SuSE would be happy if you buy the CDs from them. At least they
pay some developer to work full time on Linux. Shouldn't we support
that, by actually buying the distro.

Actually, I don't think SuSE would give a crap. It's pretty much
determined that Linux companies do not make money from shrink-wrapped
sales, 50 percent of which goes to the retailer. Hence, RedHat's future
plans.

Actually, I have in the past bought distros, including SuSE. But I don't
use SuSE. This is a peculiar situation, in which I would end up having
bought a distribution which would be used perhaps once, for a couple of
days, will result in no additional income for me, and will be unused
thereafter.

If I had the time to wait, I could buy a set on ebay for a few bucks
(which, of course, would result in no income to SuSE). But I need it for
next weekend.

Ooooh. If only. The actual retailer margin is *much* smaller than that.

Red Hat have never given retailers anything more than the slimmest
possible margin.
