The system is an IBM Thinkpad 760XL, which apparently has the Trident
Cyber9358 chip in it (which lies and says it is the Trident 9660).
I recompiled the Linux 2.4.24 kernel (Linus kernel) and installed it.
I put the proper PCMCIA drivers in the kernel - instead of as a module
- (and it works like champ!).
I also included the Trident driver for the console in the kernel, and
it doesn't work right. The display is there, but the graphics display
almost as if they are doubled or being seen through in multiple
"parts" (overlapping). The text is "doubled" as if it were one of
those modems with the echo (unnecessarily) turned on.
And this doesn't have anything at all to do with X yet....
I tried adding and subtracting options from the kernel line such as:
video=vesa:mtrr:stretch
video=trident:xxx:xxxx
console=tty0
At this point, if I can't get the Trident to work as a graphic
console, I'd just as soon disable the graphics - but neither video=
nor console= seems to fix it.
How do I get this to work right? And barring that, how do I turn it
OFF? And both without having to recompile the kernel....
Thanks in advance!
