xine crashes on netflix's DVDs
Posted by J Krugman on February 16th, 2004

I've used my installed xine to view many DVDs before, but it crashes
if I try to play a netflix DVD. (I just signed up with netflix;
I get the same problem with xine with both DVDs I've ordered from
netflix so far.) After I put the DVD in the drive, and hit play,
the xine window shows two FBI warning screens, after which it
crashes, with the message:

xine: ifo_read.c:1436: ifoRead_VOBU_ADMAP_internal: Assertion `info_length % sizeof(uint32_t) == 0' failed.
Aborted

Is there anything I can do to get xine to play these DVDs?

FWIW, my distro is Debian.

Thanks!

I can't imagine what this has to do with Netflix. Are you saying that
your xine plays all your other DVDs, but cannot play any DVDs rented from
Netflix? Hard to believe. I've gotten many DVDs from Netflix. They're
not different from DVDs from any retailer or rental outfit.

xine is not my player of choice, but I've used it. I'm usually on a RH
7.3 machine, and RH came with no DVD players, so I gathered mplayer and
its associated packages, and use it. Actually, the player I've have best
luck with is 'vlc' (on RH 9).
