- ARM with VGA output
- Posted by Neil Bradley on October 26th, 2003
I'm wondering if anyone makes an ARM based embedded system with a VGA
display output (640x480). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry - I don't normally reply to my own posts, but I didn't provide enough
info. I'd like an ARM core, 133Mhz or higher, with a VGA chip on it and a
VGA connector output (LCD Is not necessary and not wanted). No OS is
required, either.
Thanks!

AT91RM9200-DK has an 180 MHz ARM9 and an Epson SVGA controller.
A VGA connector allows you to connect to a CRT.
There is a Linux driver available, and also Green Hills Integrity.
There is a PCB problem so the screen is a little noisy though.
You want to build your own board eventually.

The Revely board uses the LH79520 which is a 77MHz ARM720T. You state you
need at least 133MHz ARM core. So, try the LH7A400 from Sharp. Use the LCD
controller to interface to a Chrontel TV encoder. I think you can use the
CH7006 for this. If I recall, the Revely board uses the same (or similar
composite VGA encoder) and you will get the benefit of the 200MHz ARM9 in
the LH7A400.
If you purchase the Logic SDK-LH7A400 for $349, you can easily adapt the
CH7006 to interface to your monitor.

You can get a ESS IC ES6420 with direct VGA output, its a MIPS based IC
however....
Its also optimised for MPEG video and audio.....
Richard.
