- newbie on ARM
- Posted by leo on May 10th, 2008
Hi,
I'm newbie on ARM. I was wondering if somebody could give me some
tips about developing tools for the platform (simulators, IDEs, and
so on). I'll appreciate any help.
Thanks
Leo

My tip is don't bother. Use one of the many commercial or open source
solutions already available....but I'm thinking maybe this is not what you
mean? Are you wanting tips on what tools are available?

Your request is a bit unclear. Are you about to go developing your own
tools, or are you looking for readily available development tools?
In the former case, I second "FreeRTOS": don't. In the latter case:
your particular ARM chip will most probably have some recommendations on
its manufacturer's web site. From what I've heard ARM has quite a
usable GCC port, and several commercial offerings, including the
RealView toolchain by ARM themselves.

Though apparently ARM have just ditched their RealView Debugger and
disbanded the team doing it.

I'll remind you of that the next time you use continuity of supply as a
stick to hit open source products with. I presume they will be giving all
their customers the source files and build scripts so they can continue with
the product themselves? First the Keil compiler, then the RealView
debugger. Good job GCC is still around - LOL.
