Obsolescence of reverse TSOP packages
Posted by abeaujean@gillam-fei.be on March 24th, 2006

Good day to all.

I am facing a problem with flash memories. I have a number of products
with 8/16 bits microprocessors that use Amd (Spansion) 5V/3V3 1MBit or
4 Mbit Flash memories.

The so-called reverse TSOP package that is so interesting when used
face to face with the standard TSOP package (one on each side of a PCB)
is being obsoleted by Spansion.

The reverse package has been abandoned by Thomson earlier.

Any idea other than redesigning the PCB, which by the way is not
immediate at all ?

Like for instance using a mechanical tool that would bend the leads the
reverse way (with probably some danger of embrittlement of the leads).

Anything else ?

to solder the standard package on to the reverse package layout.

Are the parts available in die form? Are you willing to pay a premium?
You can buy the parts in die form, or even as unseparated wafers, and
have them packaged however you want.

<http://www.icproto.com/> for instance.
