Anybody using the new Winzip 10 PRO for incremental backups ??
Posted by Mike Fields on November 8th, 2005

I have several (yes, I purchased them) image utilities, however, I
was looking for something for doing incrementals of specific areas
(homework etc for the kids). The new winzip 10 Pro sounded like
it could do what I was looking for (I have the older version),
however, if I am going to back up user accounts, I want to be able
to exclude stuff like the temp internet file folder. I sent winzip
support that question (since it does not say anything on their
web site about EXCLUDING files/folders) asking if you
could EXCLUDE files or folders and they responded that yes,
with the pro version and the backup wizard mode, you could
do that. When I suggested they add that to the
web page as a feature, they came back with a comment to the
effect they would pass it along to the developers as something to
add in the future. Hmmm - not clear if it can or can not exclude
folders (and you can't download a trial of the pro version).
Anyone out there have it and could they say if it is possible to
exclude specific folders from a "snapshot" ???

Thanks

Although this question does not belong to this newsgroup I will answer it for you I have WZ 10. And you did get your answer from WinZip when they said "they would pass it along to the developers"

Developers being a key word which means that WZ cannot fulfill what you would like to do at this time.

OK, thanks -- I had tried WinZip support but they have two
different answers -- they first said
[begin quote}
> > The job wizard does allow for the exclusion of file.

[end quote]
but then in the follow-up said he would pass it along to the developers
for a future enhancement

mikey (back to looking for a good incremental backup scheme)
