Anyone noticed Temporary Internet Folder oddity since last Tuesday?
Posted by Don Taylor on October 18th, 2005

Unlike some folks, I had never seen any problems in years with files
in my Temporary Internet Files folder, even though I would intentionally
not ever purge the entire contents, would delete some I knew I
wasn't going to use and would leave some files in it that I knew I
was going to repeatedly access on a daily basis.

Now I cannot definitely attribute this to last Tuesday's MS bug fix
blast. But since about that time I've had two or three times where
I noticed that items were missing from TIF or were not being added
to TIF even thought I had just looked at a web page, and then checked
the TIF.

The problem does appear to be fixed if I use IE to purge the folder
of all files and start over. But then it happens again in a day
or three.

I first noticed it when I wandered into craigslist.org, scanned the
usual listings, checked TIF several times and there were no cached
items from craigslist. I thought this was odd but ignored it.
After I had noticed this a few times I began to wonder. Then it
looked like some cookie files were missing, only a few were present.
After I purged all the files, but not the cookies, and looked then
there were suddenly dozens of cookies there that had not been before.

(Yes, I know the REAL cookies aren't there, they are just links in
the TIF) So I purge the unwanted cookies. I also observe that the
files are now being correctly cached in TIF. A few days go by and
again files are not being cached in TIF. I repeat and now files
cache again.

This is not a size issue, I keep an eye on the size and it never
gets close to the max allowed. This is not an expiration date
issue. It really looks like that it started just about a week ago,
I keep a shortcut to TIF on the desktop and scan through that
regularly to delete any of the stuff from net scum that happens to
show up.

Anyone else seen something like this?
