- Audio problems and cd-r problems
- Posted by Andy on November 17th, 2005
My audio problem has just started. I have C-Media AC97 Audio Device. Device
status is: This device cannot start (Code 10). I have tried to uninstall
device and reinstall; still not working. Any Suggestions?
My CD writer has not been working for months. It is a CD/DVD writer and will
write DVDs, no problems. When I place a CD-R in the drive it won't even
recognize it, like it does with DVD-Rs. This was working before though. I
can't figure out what name brand of writer that I have either. I bought my PC
as one of those package deals and cannot find the manual to it. Any
suggestions on this?

Re-install or update the drivers/firmware.
For info on what's in your machine, download/install Everest Home Edition(Free):
http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en
Create a new folder named Everest and extract the contents of the download to
that folder.
Open the folder and double-click everest.exe to run the application.
If you are not sure what next step to take, other than downloading/installing from the manufacturers support site per their instructions.
Click the + next to Computer.
Click Summary.
On the menu bar click Report > Quick Report-Summary > Plain text.
Save to your desktop and close Everest.
Open the report on the desktop.
Delete everything from Debug on down to the bottom of the page and save.
Press CTRL+A to select all.
Press CTRL+C to copy and close out.
Open a response in this thread and press CTRL+V to paste.
Post the results in a response to this thread.

Hi Brian --
I tried to post the summary on here but it was 176633 characters. I was
going to just post it in 3 or 4 parts but what exact part do I need to post?
Or I can just do the whole thing.
Thanks

You can get the latest drivers for your mobo here:
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Product...ailName=Driver
Create a new folder on your desktop named chipdrive or whatever you want that identifies the contents.
Create a new folder for each download in that folder named appropriately. ie: Audio, Video, Lan, etc.
Download the Audio file to the Audio folder, the Video file to the vid folder, etc.
Once you've downloaded each file needed open each folder and extract the contents of the .zip files into the same folder the .zip file is in. ie: extract the zipped Audio files to the Audio folder, etc.
Once all files are extracted for each device, read the ReadMe.txt files for information on installing/updating the drivers.
For the DVD drive start here:
http://www.lge.com/support/software_gcsc.jsp
Select Continent - North America
Select Country - USA
Click the Go arrow on the right of the boxes.
Below the selection boxes under product click on DVD-ROM (Writer).
Scroll to the bottom of the software results and click 2.
Scroll approx half way for your devices software.
Click on GSA-4081B Firmware for important info on the 2 files offered for download.
If you're not sure if you should use them you can contact the support number included in the info to query them.

Sorry for the late response Andy, I've had a few things to sort out of my own.
Do you have the software installed for the Sound device?
Do you have burning software installed for the DVD?

Hello Brian!
No problems at all. Yes the sound I figured out last night. It was something
simple that just wasn't there before and then I checked it again and voila.
So my sound IS working now.. but still not able to burn CDs. I just
reinstalled my burning software which is Pinnacle Instant DVD/CD. I emailed
LG who makes my burner and waiting on them to respond. I don't understand
what would cause my burner to just stop burning CDs when DVDs are burning
fine.

I can't say, but it's possible it may be an SP2 update issue from what I've searched out.
See for instance this thread:
