Automatic Update keeps asking for a reboot
Posted by Frank on February 16th, 2008

Automatic Update installed the normal patches etc. this week, and finished
with the question to reboot. I did so, but after the reboot, the same
question appeared again, and again, and again.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Regards,

Frank

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,
AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before
attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party
firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

Start the computer and press F8 repeatedly when the manufacturer's splash
screen appears to bring up the Advanced Options menu. Highlight "Last Known
Good Configuration" and hit Enter. See if that helps.

Actually, a better recommendation is to use System Restore. The installer
sets a restore point before it installs patches so you should easily be able
to identify the right one. Sorry, about that.
