XP Pro, SP2. I have auto updates on, and it did not update
to SP3. Good. How do I make sure it does not?

HP computer, XP home. Update to latest. It tried to install
SP3. What is the difference?

Choose "Custom", so that you can see the list of available updates.

When you find SP3 on the list, hide it so it won't show again.

Always do manual updates from that point onward.
