Automatically detecting version of media player winxp
Posted by Matt Berry on February 18th, 2006

I have a winxp update disc that I've been using / updating for a while now.
It contains all the hotupdates, security software and a bunch of other
information I use to setup or fix computers. It's not perfect, but I've been
using various cmd scripts to automatically install the updates and software.
It's worked fine for me so far, but now with the latest updates from
microsoft I'm having a little trouble.

I need to know how to automatically detect which version of media player has
been installed on a machine, so that I can have a script install the right
update.

Also is there a way to automatically detect which service pack is installed
on a computer? Right now I have to know what service pack is installed and
manually run the script for it. If it could be done automatically that would
be cool. Thanks for any help with this
