- Autoplay and Auto Insert Notification Not working Xp Home

My Autoplay and Auto Insert Notification quit working . I have checked all
the appropriate registry entries ( all were correct) and tried Microsoft's
Autofix tool and still no solution . I have noted that the autoplay tab is
missing when I right click on the Cd drive and look at properties. I have
also noted that the service " Shell Hardware Detection" is missing in the
list of services and I suspect that this missing service is the cause of the
problem. Anyone know how I can re-install this service and how it came to be
missing in the first place?

Don,
The REG file below restores the Shell Hardware Detection service.
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/services/shellhwdetection.reg
Save the file to Desktop. Right-click and choose "Merge". Restart Windows
for the changes to take effect.
