Background color of desktop quickinfo changed
Posted by Helge Haensel on November 16th, 2005

Hallo!
When manipulating an image in a MS Word *.doc file, on a sudden, the
backgrounds of all labels (quickinfo?) of the icons on the desktop
switched to a light blue. I was able to change that via control panel /
display to white and only white, but i want it back to transparent (and
also with the backgounds of some of the icons themselves).
Any ideas? Tnx!

Four things are required for transparent icon backgrounds:

1) 'System Properties' -> 'Advanced' tab -> Performance 'Settings' -> 'Visual Effects' tab:
"use drop shadows for icon labels..." must be checked

2) Right-click on Desktop -> 'Arrange Icons by' -> "Lock Web items..." must be CLEARED

3) If you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work.

To check for web content: Display Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab > make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.

Halo!
Thanks Keith. I checked all the above and all is set that way.
I also found, that some apps had problems when showing tooltips.
Anyway, I reset the system via systemrestore. Everything seems to be
alright now.
Different virus- and malware-scanner didnt find questionable items.
Thanks!
Helge
