Please could you say which software would be best to completely erase
files that I have already deleted from an NTFS partition under Windows
XP just using the normal Windows Delete option.

There are a variety of file wiping utilities available. Google for
them. Personally I have used CyberScrub. It isn't free but it's a good
program.
