The "Blue Bar"
Posted by Peter on June 13th, 2008

I would be grateful for some advice on a trivial but annoying problem that I
have with the blue bar at the top of my Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
displays. This is the one that has the Explorer icon followed by some words
(for example) "New Question- Microsoft Internet Explorer". In my case, the
"........Microsoft Internet Explorer" is always followed by "...provided by
Virgin.net", since Virgin.net used to be my internet provider, when I lived
in the UK, where I bought this current computer.
It has always been a mystery to me how the words "...provided by Virgin.net"
came to be there, because I didn't knowingly select them, but they also
appear on the blue bar of my Outlook Express.
Here's the question. Can anyone explain how I can remove these word from the
blue bar?

How to Change the Internet Explorer Window Title
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q176497

How to change the title text of Outlook Express.
To do this, go to the Registry Editor, and then go to the key
HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Identities. After that, you should see 1 or more
cryptic codes. Click on each or all of them to see which one says
"Main Identity" on the right side. After that, expand it to
Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 and change "WindowTitle" to
what you want it to be, probably just "Outlook Express."

Alan, thank you very much for your message and explanation of the remedy for
my "problem". I'm not sure that I completely understand it, but I will give
it a try, and if I get stuck, I will post again. Thanks for your time.

Well Alan, it's good news and bad news. I backed up the Registry and
managed to stumble through the Registry Editor process, succeeding in
removing the "offending words" from the Internet Explorer window title!
But...I can't for the life of me seem to repeat this result in the case of
Outlook Express. I have tried to follow your instructions but grind to a
halt when I get to ....\Outlook Express\5.0...
I've also searched the Microsoft help links on the issue...unsuccessfully.
Can you offer any other suggestions regarding my technique? Regards.

What do you mean "grind to a halt"?
Please explain what happens when you get to ....\Outlook Express\5.0..
Do you see "Window Title" in the right-hand pane?

Alan, no there didn't seem to be any "Window Title" on the right hand
side...that was my problem. But thanks very much indeed Kelly, "Line 279"
did the trick! I am most grateful to you both!
Best wishes.
