- Boot UP takes 10 minutes
- Posted by Musicman22 on October 7th, 2005
I think this problem happened after I tried to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus.
I went to the Symantec website and they gave me 5 pages of uninstall
directions. I may have missed something or taken something out by mistake.
Once it boots up it works fine.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thank you.

I don't think it's related to the Norton. As in general Norton slows the
system.
Try:-
How to troubleshoot by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310560
How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310353
Still if you think it's all due to Norton then reinstall that and
followed that by a proper uninstallation.

Most efficient - assuming you have backups etc - is to clean install XP;
best is to make your own updated, personalized installation XP CD.

When I went to Start, Run msconfig and clicked on Diagnostic Start up, I got
this message: An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change
a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the
specified changes.
What do I have to do?
Thanks,
Peer

I also tried Clean Boot and I got the same message as below.
Phillips...I'll use clean install of XP as a last resort.
Thanks

Symantec has supplementary uninstall utilities available from their
website to clean up the mess that is usually left behind by their
(sub)normal uninstall procedures.
What version of NAV was your computer inflicted with?
Good luck
