- Bootup C:\?
- Posted by K.J.B. on January 23rd, 2006
Hi,
About a week ago when I bootup into Windows XP it goes to Explorer with C:\
I cannot find anything in the HKey_Local
Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run or the msconifg that would make this
happen?
Any ideas?

I have had this happen but honestly can't remember how to fix it..If I
remember I will advise.
I believe there is a program within Windows that if someone accidently
starts, it will launch the dos prompt at every startup until it is is
discontiued.

Kelly
Autoruns is a programme, which list everything starting and
where it starts from.Try downloading and installing:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html
Look through the entries for explorer.exe.
You can save the output of the Everything tab to a txt file.
Place the cursor on any item in the list and it gives a save
as option on the File drop down. Post a copy of the suspect
entry giving details of the start location.

Hope this helps.

No dont delete that entry. Are you saying when windows starts an explorer
window opens?
Download autoruns from sysinternals and see if an explorer window is listed.

There is a known fault which opens windows\system32, have a look here.
System32 opens on startup

There is a script on Kellys-Korner line 260 that might help, here's a link
to the file.
