Hi group,
Will be going broadband Saturday and in need of some advice please.
The wife and I are 70+ but what the heck -we're going for it!
Staples has routers Linksys and Net gear.
So suggestions will be appreciated as what may be best for us.
Wife has ME and updated and I have XP SP2 all updated.
So Linksys Befsr 11 or Netgear rp614??
Hope I did my home work correctly!!
Really open to suggestions.
Thank You,
JIM

Jim
Go with the Linksys, I have never had a issue with them and I tell everyone
who asks to go with Linksys. They seem to be the most relyable..... It might
cost a little more but its worth it....

In my opinion the Linksys BEFSX41 is a great choice:

But if you want to keep your options open for future wireless possibilities,
you may want to look into a Linksys WRT54G:

The wireless router will also work for wired networks as well. They both
have firewalls which is recommended with broadband.

Thank you both for your input.
Had forgotten about D-Link-another possibly.

Befsr 11 connects to broadband and one computer.
You probably want a Beefs 41, so you can connect both computers to the
router.
I didn't research the Net.
I would stay away from a wireless router unless you wanted to have the
computers in different rooms.

I still have the Linksys BEFSR41 that I bought when I went broadband in
1997. I have installed many more expensive netgear and d-link
firewall/router products, but if I had to do it all over again for this
household; I would buy a Linksys BEFSR41 all over again.

The only problem is that the BEFSR41 of today is different than the BEFSR41
of 1997. The firewall is now an add on software deal that they want you to
buy seperately. From my experience the closest replacement available today
(and I have one and it works great) is a Linksys BEFSX41.

Built-in NAT technology helps keep intruders out of your computers.
