- broken DirectX 9c
- Posted by David 144 on March 12th, 2006
I seem to have a major problem with DirectX 9c installed on XP Pro with SP2.
DirectX diagnostic tool is reporting that all the files are there and are ok
but under the display tab direct draw, direct 3d and agp texture are all
being reported as unavailable. I have tried to reinstall DirectX from both
the web updater and from a full install, but both ways report that DirectX 9c
is fully installed and OK.
I have a Norton Ghost image from when i installed SP2 and when i load that
on to a hard disk i can see DirectX 9c is working fine with all options under
the display tab being available, so i am guessing that somewhere between Sp2
and now it has got corrupted. Any help would be great, i dont know what else
to try and i really dont want to have to reinstall all my software and data
again... also worried that if i do that i may end up in the same situation
again!

You haven't said what your card is, or if your graphics card supports DX9.
If it doesn't it can't and won't ever work, but there is a solution. Buy a
graphics card that does support DX9c.
Check your secret card makers website- if it doesn't support it you are just
wasting time.

Hi Alan
the card is an ATI All in Wonder rage 128 pro, it is an old card but was ok
working with XP/SP2 when i took the ghost image. I got a new card at the
weekend, an Nvidia fx5200 which is DirectX 9C certified, but that gave
exactly the same result with missing display tabs! I know that my directX is
corrupted, but seem unable to figure out how to repair it.

Did you uninstall the AIW drivers before taking that card out? Then when you
are in standard VGA change cards? Otherwise you get left over bits- I'm
pretty sure the help files will tell you to do it that way.
