- Burn a copy of a retail XP install disk?
- Posted by Jonny on December 27th, 2005
I know if I have the proper burning software installed and working, that I
can. Disc to disc is easiest.
If you intend to use and reuse it alot, a copy is probably smart thing to
use instead.

I have a retail copy of Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 1. Can I burn
a copy, disk-to-disk, or otherwise, of the installation CD?

I always make a copy of any software I buy. I then store the original in a
safe location and work off of the copy. If more people did the same, you
would have far less inquiries about how to replace lost/damaged CD's.

Burn as many copies as you want to.
Backups are always smart.

You're lucky you're not like me. Whenever I store anything in a "safe"
location, I can be sure I'll forget where I put it and never find it again.

Which is probably why as a kid I found heaps of silver coins in jars in
odd places in my grandfathers basement. I was glad at that time to to
give/present them to him. No wonder he, or his wife, never complained
about me "snooping" around their basement or attic

When I was a kid, I had a small collection of foreign coins that had been my
mothers. I decided (I can't remember how, but I'm sure I dfidn't really
know) that a few of them were rarer and more valuable than the others, so I
separated those from the others and put them in a "safe" place.
Guess which ones I never saw again.

When I was younger, whenever I got a new car I would fold up a $100 bill and
stick it under the dash board - for emergencies.
You guessed right. I traded in a car and forgot about the bill. It probably
went to the salvage yard by now. (-:

If you have SP2 installed why not make a slipstreamed CD, it will make
repairs and reinstallations easier.

I bought a car for $100 once that must have been owned by someone like you.
PS Thanks for the car.

I wish I had a $100 bill when I was younger. I do recall putting a few
bucks under the floor mat for emergency gas tho
