- Burning ISO image/other non-music content as track-at-once or disc-at-once ?
- Posted by Thomas Blabb on September 26th, 2005
My burning program (Nero) offers two methods of burning onto a CD/DVD:
track-at-once
disc-at-once
Which one should I take?
Does it matter for an ISO image (which should always be burning as No-Multisession)?
What are the differences for an ISO image?
What are the differences for other (non-music) content?
How about the "Finalize" option. Should the CD/DVD be finalized when burning an ISO image onto a
non-Multisession medium?

Disc at once for drag and drop file burning. Track at once can be finicky.

Yes. An ISO image is a copy of a CD/DVD. If further writing is
anticipated, it is no longer a copy.

Other than how to get to the correct menu, and selecting an ISO image to
burn, very little.

Assumng you're using Nero Burning Rom, should be rather obvious in the menu
selection on the left.

A non-multisession indicates no further burning anticipated. Why would you
NOT finalize it?
What's all this have to do with XP?

ISO image burning will/should not give the option to do 1) Track/Disk at
once AND 2) Finalize.
ISO image is an exact copy of the original CD / DVD that the image was taken
from. Since you want to duplicate the original, the image file burning will
be done with the original settings (ie: Boot or no Boot, Disk or Track at
once, Finalize or not Finalized).
AS for understanding Multisessions and Finalize options, here is some
basics:
1) Use multisession option if you are going to use the media in the same
drive to add info to it. Do not finalize multisessions discs.
2) You Finalize CDs/DVDs if:
1) Not a multisession disk.
2) To be used on other systems (not on CD/DVD burners)
3) Disk to be played on standard audio CD player or DVD TV top
box.

And yet I burned a Knoppix Live CD from downloaded ISO image, using
NTI CD and DVD Maker. The burning software proposed track-at-once and
closing the session but not the disk. That seemed odd to em, but I
tried it and the disk boots just fine.
