Cached user credentials and logon to different domain
Posted by Soeren S. Joergensen on October 9th, 2005

Hi,

I've got some remote users running WinXP on their laptops and being members
of different unknown domains. These users should be able to map a shared
drive on our domain server though a VPN tunnel.

The VPN tunnel is up and they are able to ping, telnet ect. out server - no
problem here.

But when they are disconnected from their own domains they cannot logon to
our domain server (using the, by us, provided user/password) - so the case
is:

They are connected our network using the VPN tunnel
The are logged on to thier computer using cached credentials from their own
domain.
They need to logon to our domain to get access to the network share (on our
server)

When trying to map the share (net use X: \\192.168.XXX.XXX\ShareName pwd
/user:OURDOMAIN\user /persistent:no /yes) an error are returned saying that
the user cannot be validated. This happens only when they are disconnected
from their own domain.

What do we do about that ??

Kr. Soren.
