- Can you make an icon for a removeable disk
- Posted by Paul on January 4th, 2006
When you eject it?
Hi all, I've figured out, how to change drive icons
for fixed and removable disks. (this is in XP SP2).
The default icons for them. In the registry.
Is there an entry you can put in the registry (besides
defaulticon), that'll change the default icon to another icon
when you eject removable disks (ie: like Ipods/USB keys, memory cards etc)?
I somehow doubt it, but no harm in asking!
Any info appreciated
Thanx

[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\DriveIcons\"Drive
Letter"\DefaultIcon]
Double-click (Default) and enter the path for the icon.
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\DriveIcons\"Drive
Letter"\DefaultLabel]
Double-click (Default) and enter whatever name you would like for your drive
to be called.
Note: You will probably have to create the key "Drive Letter" and its
sub-keys.

Thanx Will.
At last a normal answer, from someone who knows.
The drive letters, and default icons have been
created....I'll check it out.. I just have to add
the defaultlabel entry/entries.
Cheers

You're welcome and you may have to logoff and then log on for changes to
take affect.

YW Paul. See section "Assigning a Custom Icon and Label to a Drive Letter"
in that article. Both the methods work in Windows XP.
