I need the full resorce of my puter sometimes... with ME and 98 it was easy,
you could turn of unnessary progams by going to RUN and typing in ( I can't
remember what it was) If you know what I'm talking about then, does XP home
have the same RUN feacher or do I just have to guess in task manager which
programs to turn off? I end up shutting exp down when I do this

Start | run
Type
msconfig

The startup tab should give you what you're looking for.
This isn't temporarily closing programs, though (so your subject line is
misleading) - it's selecting which programs you want to automatically start
up when you log in.
